More Good Days, Together: Whole Health for All

Mental Health Month in May is a celebratory season signaled by green ribbons and shining lights of hope and optimism across the country. This annual campaign unites millions of people to promote awareness of mental health topics, share resources, and advocate for the well-being of all.

While this month offers an important platform to highlight mental health specifically, it is important to remember that you cannot separate mental health from physical health. They are equally important and deeply connected. Yet, mental health is often left out of broader health conversations, leaving those experiencing a mental health condition to cope alone.

At Mental Health America, we know that there is no health without mental health. 1 in 5 people experience a mental health condition each year — and 5 in 5 are managing their mental health every day. Mental Health America’s 2026 theme, More Good Days, Together, invites communities to reimagine whole person health, acknowledging our mental well-being as a pivotal component of our overall well-being.

This year’s campaign reminds us that our sleep, stress, relationships, nutrition, environment, and other health conditions all impact — and are impacted by — our mental health.

Here are three simple ways that you can begin to create more good days this Mental Health Month, by caring for your whole self:

1. Fuel your body:
Spend intentional moments each day on the things you need to sustain your energy, like hydration, balanced meals, personal hygiene, and sleep.

2. Celebrate your wins
Take time to celebrate your victories throughout the day, whether that is checking off your entire to-do list or simply getting out of bed.

3. Connect with kindness
Find the balance of social connection that works best for you! Feeling loved and affirmed is a protective factor towards our well-being. If you want to supercharge your good day, consider sharing that feeling with others through a random act of kindness for an additional mood boost.

Even when we can’t change everything, noticing what we can influence is important for our well-being. The tips above are a great place to start. And remember — small wins matter.
